Dr. Budson is Chief of Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology, Associate Chief of Staff for Education, and Director of the Center for Translational Cognitive Neuroscience at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston Healthcare System. He is also Associate Director for Research at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center.

Course Description:

 

This course will enhance provider practice serving people of any age. It will offer providers guidance regarding how they can teach families to manage the problems that often come with dementia with four different approaches for various types of problems. Other social workers may work with adults who have parents or grandparents with dementia. This course will also help providers know when an  their older client is beginning to show signs of memory loss that could be the start of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.

Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Articulate the difference between memory loss that occurs in normal aging versus that which occurs in Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Describe the evidence-based lifestyle changes including diet and exercise that are proven to reduce one’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Teach general approaches to agitation and other problems in dementia including the ABCs, 4 R’s, 3 time principles, and start with small steps.
