Rising Risk for Refugees and Immigrants in Massachusetts: Policy Shifts, ICE Activity, and Social Work Responses
PRESENTER
Alexandra Weber, LICSW Chief Advancement Officer and Senior Vice President at the International Institute of New England.
2 CE Credits offered: NASW / LICSW / LDAC / LMHC / Nursing
Recent federal immigration directives have increased the risk of detention and enforcement for many immigrants and refugees living in U.S. communities, including individuals who are lawfully present in Massachusetts and engaged in everyday activities such as work, school, and healthcare.
New federal guidance and broad enforcement changes have expanded ICE activity in community settings. For social workers, these overlapping federal actions mean that clients may experience heightened fear, service avoidance, family disruption, and trauma even without changes in their personal circumstances.
In this webinar we will meet an IINE staff member who will share direct experience of clients who've faced ICE engagements. This presentation will help social workers understand these federal shifts at a high level and explore their practical implications for ethical, trauma‑informed, and client‑centered practice.
