This course explores the emotional dimensions of driver cessation, addressing the complex feelings of loss, anxiety, and the change in identity that often accompany the transition. The presentation will look into the psychological impact of relinquishing driving privileges, including the potential for increased social isolation and diminished independence. We will also learn about resources currently available to older drivers with a focus on how family members can sensitively approach a conversation about discontinuing driving with an older family member or loved one.
The goal is to
equip caregivers, family members, and professionals with the tools to support older adults through this challenging life change.
