    Many providers are mystified about psychosis and as a result can experience anxiety when engaging someone experiencing psychosis. Such feelings can result from not knowing what will happen next and/or how to best help the person in front of them. This presentation attempts to improve the ability of providers to recognize and respond to psychosis.The course provides an understanding of the following:
    • Course Objectives Include:
    • Psychosis – What it is and also what it is not.
    • Identifying psychiatric and medical conditions that can cause psychosis.
    • Clinical vignettes as examples about how psychosis can present with various conditions.
    • Practical strategies around how to best help somebody who is experiencing psychosis.
    • Understanding the strategies to involve parents in youth substance use treatment

    Presenter: Dr. Oliver Freudenreich, PhD
    Dr. Freudenreich is the Co-Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Schizophrenia Clinical and Research Program, and Director of the MGH Fellowship in Public and Community Psychiatry in Boston.
